At our recent public forum on voter suppression, Lift Every Voice and Vote, panelists Kristin Clarke and Maria Teresa Kumar stressed the urgency for strong voter turnout among our nation’s youth. The statistics are startling: 1 in 10 eligible voters are Generation Z (ages 18-23), but not all are registered. What a difference they could make.

JusticeAid has partnered with the Civic Life Project’s Democracy 2020 Youth Film Challenge, a film and social media competition that awards youth for their creativity in promoting social justice issues. The newly created JusticeAid Film Prize offers special award money for submissions that focus on social justice or include a call to action to vote.

Think of it as another way to promote justice through the arts. From high schoolers who use TikTok to aspiring college-level videographers, this novel peer-to-peer project is intended to motivate youth to engage in civic life and get out the vote in 2020.

Our democracy depends on the youth vote, and we appreciate your desire to help.
