Our Democracy Is at Risk

CALLING ALL YOUNG ACTIVISTS, FILMMAKERS, SOCIAL MEDIA CREATIVES!

Announcing a competition with a cause.

The Democracy 2020 Youth Film Challenge is a new film and social media competition hosted by the Civic Life Project that encourages youth to participate in civic life and vote in 2020.

You have the power to be heard.

The newly created JusticeAid Film Prizes award youth filmmakers (15-25 years) for their passion for social justice.

There are two categories:

  • Short films with a social justice theme
  • Social media campaigns with a “Get out the vote” call to action theme
  • JusticeAid prize winners also qualify for Civic Life Project prizes; winning submissions could potentially be awarded up to $7,000!

JusticeAid Prizes for Short Films

  • Gold:  $2,000
  • Silver: $1,000
  • Bronze: $500

JusticeAid Prizes for  Social Media Campaigns

  • First Prize: $1,000
  • Second Prize: $750
  • People’s Choice: $500

How the Challenge works.

1. Create a short film or social media campaign on justice issues important to you and your community.

Short films (6-8 minutes): What issues do you believe should be addressed by 2020 candidates? Topics like climate change, police brutality, immigration, mass incarceration, racism, voter suppression, gun control, and LGBTQ are just some examples. Your submission should motivate future generations of citizens to engage in national elections.

Social media campaigns (2 minutes in length and must have a “Call to Action” to vote): We challenge you to measurably increase the youth vote in 2020. You are free to use animation, documentary, interviews, and testimonials.  Create your video using your favorite social media platform. Make it funny or make it poignant, make it sad or hopeful, but make it count!

BEFORE SUBMITTING YOUR WORK, BE SURE TO READ THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE CIVIL LIFE PROJECT WEBSITE.
