Announcing a competition with a cause.

The Democracy 2020 Youth Film Challenge, founded by the Civic Life Project, is a film and social media competition that encourages youth to participate in civic life and vote in 2020.

You have the power to be heard.

This year, we are offering additional awards to the Democracy 2020 Youth Film Challenge: The JusticeAid Film Prizes will award youth filmmakers (15-25 years) for their passion for social justice.

There are two categories:

  • Documentary films with a social justice theme
  • Social media campaigns with a message to “Get out the vote.”
  • JusticeAid prize winners also qualify for Civic Life Project prizes; winning both prizes adds thousands of dollars to the total award.
  • JusticeAid winners in the documentary film category are invited to submit their entries, free of charge, to the New York Film Festival’s 2021 student competition.

JusticeAid Prizes for Short Films

  • Gold:  $2,000
  • Silver: $1,000
  • Bronze: $500

JusticeAid Prizes for  Social Media Campaigns

  • Gold Prize: $1,000
  • Silver Prize: $750
  • Bronze Prize: $500

How to Qualify for the #JusticeAidPrize.

1. Create a documentary film or social media campaign on justice issues important to you and your community.

Documentary films (any length up to 8 minutes): What issues do you believe should be addressed by 2020 candidates? Topics like racism, voter suppression, civil rights, police brutality, immigration, mass incarceration, gun control, and LGBTQ rights are just some examples. Your submission should motivate your peers to engage in national elections.

Social media campaigns (no longer than 2 minutes and must have a “Call to Action” to vote): We challenge you to measurably increase the youth vote in 2020. You are free to use animation, documentary, interviews, and testimonials.  Create your video using your favorite social media platform. Make it funny or make it poignant, make it sad or hopeful, but make it count!
