The incomparable Mavis Staples is coming to town on October 19th for JusticeAid’s 2021 Fall Concert at Washington, DC’s Lincoln Theatre—and we can hardly wait! Joining Mavis on the bill is Amy Helm, one of today’s finest singer-songwriters in the Americana Roots tradition.
And this just in: JusticeAid’s favorite spoken word artist, Paine the Poet, will open the evening’s program with his original and always compelling verse. His poetry hits hard, but always guides us toward compassion.
There’s a ticket price for everyone, starting at $35. Plan a night out and have some fun while contributing to a worthwhile justice cause.
A note about ticket sales: When you purchase your tickets on the Ticketmaster website, all ticket proceeds, and all donations to JusticeAid between now and the concert, will go directly to expand the Police Accountability/Community Empowerment program of the Neighborhood Defender Service.
Social distancing, proof of full vaccination, and masks will be required for entry along with a matching photo ID. Proof of vaccination can be your physical vaccine card or a photo of your card.
We are at capacity for our Author Talk with Prof. Kris Henning at Busboys and Poets, but you can attend virtually by joining us for a Facebook Live event at 5 PM on Oct. 19th. Professor Henning will be discussing her new book, The Rage of Innocence: How America Criminalizes Black Youth, with Professor Angela J. Davis, Distinguished Professor of Law at American University Washington College of Law. Read more.

JusticeAid, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charity, leverages the community-building power of art and music to transform awareness into action in the fight against injustice. Each year we identify and raise funds for justice causes by hosting music, arts, and educational events. Since 2013 JusticeAid has granted over 1.3 million dollars to nonprofits that are ending mass incarceration, addressing the criminalization of poverty and inhumane immigration policies, and protecting civil rights for all.
In 2021, JusticeAid’s focus is police accountability and community empowerment. Through October 2021, 100 percent of your donation will support the expansion of NDS PACE, the Police Accountability/Community Empowerment program of Neighborhood Defender Service.
