MEET

NDS

For decades, NDS has worked in the courtrooms and communities to secure justice for its neighbors. As public defenders serving the Black and brown neighborhoods enduring the most police misconduct, they are determined to build power with, and for, their clients to reckon with the injustices they face…

The Police Accountability and Community Empowerment program (PACE), made possible by the support of JusticeAid, will change the way public safety happens in this country. It is the next generation of groundbreaking work from NDS, designed to bring about long-term structural change.

“A nationally-recognized, community-based public defender office, Neighborhood Defender Service is relentless in its mission to secure clients’ rights and ease their pain amid a million daily indignities, violence, and even death. Its Police Accountability and Community Empowerment Program (PACE) is pioneering solutions to problems with police accountability by investing directly in communities where harms are felt acutely.”

—Rick Jones, Executive Director and a founding member of the Neighborhood Defender Service (NDS)
