Spotlight on Vocalist Lisa Fischer

JUSTICEAID CELEBRATES NINA SIMONE

Monday, May 22, 2023, 6:30 PM, at City Winery, NYC

You may remember background singer Lisa Fischer featured in the 2013 Best Documentary Oscar-winning film, “Twenty Feet from Stardom.”  Her story, and clips of her legendary duets with Sting and Mick Jagger, left audiences eager to see and hear more.

After four decades of accompanying others, Ms. Fischer set out on her own. On May 22nd, she, along with eight other gifted musical artists, will take center stage at City Winery in a tribute to Nina Simone.

Ms. Fischer emerged from New York’s fervent studio scene in the early 1980s, sang with vocalist Luther Vandross for two decades, and earned her first Best R&B Performance Grammy with “How Can I Ease The Pain.” She joined the Rolling Stones for their 1989 Steel Wheels tour and continued to grace their stage for the next 26 years. Recent collaborations include Sting, Bruce Springsteen, Michael McDonald, YoYo Ma, and the National Philharmonic.

We are thrilled to count Ms. Fischer among our 2023 JusticeAid performing artists.
