Great News!

Last week JusticeAid’s Board approved a grant of $200,000 to SMYAL, our 2022 grantee partner. Thank you to our donors—and thank you, SMYAL—for making it possible for LGBTQ youth to seize each day with pride. Through this circle of giving, queer and trans youth are building self-confidence and learning critical life skills to prepare them for a future of advocacy and community service.

Here’s What’s Happening at SMYAL This Summer
  • An Instagram Rise Up! art contest recognizing the creative talents of queer and trans youth.
  • Virtual youth DJ contests and a Middle Grades Queer Book Club.
  • “Breaking Ground,” a White House award-winning DC summer theater program, where LGBTQIA+ youth of color detail their lives, challenges, and journeys through the development of a full musical production.
  • Weekly Little SMYALs programs for LGBTQ+ youth ages 6-12.
  • Supportive housing for LGBTQ youth experiencing homelessness.

JusticeAid leverages the community-building power of art and music to transform awareness into action in the fight against injustice. Each year we identify and raise funds for justice causes by hosting music, arts, and educational events. Since 2013 JusticeAid has granted more than 1.5 million dollars to nonprofits working to ensure access to justice for the disenfranchised and marginalized. Our grantee partners are fighting racist voter suppression and racist policing, working to end mass incarceration and inhumane immigration practices, ensuring access to legal services, and addressing the criminalization and hatred of others.
