Moving into 2025, we are turning our attention to the criminalization of pregnancy. The work of our 2025 grantee partner, Pregnancy Justice, stands at this intersection of reproductive justice and criminal defense.
We are facing an era where pregnancy itself gives rise to the policing of women’s bodies in the most intimate circumstances, ensnaring vulnerable women in the criminal and family legal systems, often leading to non-consensual medical testing and even governmentally forced medical procedures.
As ever, the criminalization of pregnancy falls most heavily on the disenfranchised—poor women and women of color—whose civil rights are significantly imperiled.
We will fight for the wellbeing of Americans whose reproductive healthcare and self-autonomy rights are under attack.
