Seeing queer people is powerful, and it matters. Art that depicts and focuses on LGBTQ experiences offers connections to those who may feel less than welcomed by a heteronormative society.
Consistent with our goal to promote justice through the arts, and our focus in 2022 on LGBTQ Rights, this year we’ll be bringing you suggestions for films that illuminate the LGBTQ experience.
To this end, we are launching a new webpage: Queer Art + Artists. Our first featured film is Moonlight, paired with banner art by Louis Fratino. Our pick for Music that Matters is “Smalltown Boy” by the Beastie Boys. You can find links to view the film and listen to the music on our new webpage along with background on the film and the artwork, plus recommendations for books and more.
We hope that this art offers inspiration, deepens our collective understanding about queerness, and prompts candid conversations with family and friends. We welcome your reactions and suggestions and look forward to taking this journey with you throughout 2022 as we strive to forge greater empathy and deeper commitment to providing access to justice and protections for the civil rights of all persons.
