Every year JusticeAid identifies a pressing civil rights issue to spotlight, and carefully selects a nonprofit addressing that issue to support. In 2020, with our focus on voter empowerment, and racist voter suppression, Election Protection/866-OUR-VOTE was the right choice for our grantee partner.

Thanks to the generosity of the incredible JusticeAid family, this week we are making a second grant to Election Protection, for a total of $300,000, to fuel its work to protect the vote.

Here is what your donations to JusticeAid made possible.

  • In recent months Election Protection/866-OUR-VOTE has:
  • Responded to a record-breaking number of calls to its hotline, 866-OUR-VOTE, (115,000 just during October) empowering voters with the information they need in the final stretch;
  • Deployed over 42,000 legal volunteers (up from 5,000 in 2016);
  • Set up 30 command centers across the country to protect the vote on Election Day;
  • Organized an army of lawyers ready for emergency litigation on Election Day and, if necessary, in the weeks thereafter.
  • Filed nearly 3 dozen voting rights lawsuits across the country since the pandemic.

And just last week, a court granted an order blocking 2 operatives from issuing robocalls to Black voters urging them to vote a certain way. These calls were just one example of intentional voter suppression and voter intimidation that Election Protection addressed this year. And Election Protection will continue its vital work year in and year out to free future elections from voter suppression.

Thank you for trusting JusticeAid to select critical issues and deserving grantee partners, and believing, as we do, that art and music can move us to action in our continuing struggle for justice.
