New Year. New Justice Focus: Racism in Policing

Every year JusticeAid identifies a pressing civil rights issue to spotlight and carefully selects a nonprofit addressing that issue as its grantee partner. In 2021, we are excited to introduce you to Neighborhood Defender Service’s new PACE (Police Accountability / Community Empowerment) Program.

NDS is a pioneering national public defender office with three decades of experience in holistic defense representation, first in Harlem and now in Detroit. Drawing on this experience, NDS has created the new PACE Program, which will fundamentally change how policing works across the country and build local community power.

The PACE Program will dismantle the structures and mechanisms that have allowed police to inflict harm upon Black and Brown communities while simultaneously helping neighborhoods to thrive and prosper. Through targeted impact litigation, grassroots organizing, and legislative advocacy, PACE will reshape policy to address the entrenched systems of segregation in our nation in ways that will reverberate across generations.

Throughout 2021 you can count on JusticeAid to introduce you to trusted voices that will help each of us understand solutions to racism in policing.

LEARN ABOUT PACE

JusticeAid leverages the community-building power of art and music to transform awareness into action in the fight against injustice. Each year we identify and raise funds for justice causes by hosting music, arts and educational events. Since 2013 JusticeAid has raised over 1.3 million dollars for justice heroes: nonprofits that are ending mass incarceration, addressing the criminalization of poverty and inhumane immigration policies, and protecting civil rights for all. In 2021, JusticeAid’s focus is police accountability and community empowerment. Through October 2020, 100 percent of your donation will support the expansion of the Police Accountability / Community Empowerment program of Neighborhood Defender Service.
